Friends don't let friends use CSS 2 with IE
Well, over the past month I have struggled again and again to apply my 'enough to be dangerous' CSS2 prowess to make a somewhat attractive, easy on the bandwidth pocket-book website.
Unfortunately, the problem-child browser, Internet Explorer, has made my life miserable every step of the way. I will be the first to admit that my main stylesheet for this website isn't the most maintainable ever written, but, it works, and it jumps through some pretty amazing hoops on the way. Just the same, it seems every time I tweak something, or change something less trivial than a color setting, IE decides to crap all over my efforts and move my visual elements all over the screen like a toddler playing with his spaghettios.
Currently (as of 12/14/03) the site looks correct in Mozilla Firebird .7 (actually, in a nightly build post-0.7), IE 6.0 SP1 with some quick fixes, and apparently Safari too (according to this wonderful website: Safari Screen Capture).
If anyone out there is using some obscure browser (by obscure I mean anything I don't use ;)), please let me know if you see something going on. I followed the specs, and then, well, Microsoft didn't :) - so I had to *ahem* optimize *ahem* so it would look good elsewhere - and I may be confusing other browsers now.
